Gas potential evaluation offshore Croatia to trigger renewed exploration
Since 1973, several gas fields have been discovered and put into production in the northern and central Adriatic Sea offshore Croatia (Figure 1). From north to south the main gas fields include Izabela, Ivana, Ida, Ika and Marica. However, several other relatively smaller accumulations contribute to the recoverable reserves associated with the gas-bearing Plio-Pleistocene foredeep clastic sand deposits (for example, Irina, Vesna, Katarina). The aim of the study presented here was to evaluate the gas potential offshore Croatia. The method followed consisted in using the existing 2D and 3D seismic data to identify amplitude anomalies in the Plio-Pleistocene sequence that could be related to the presence of a gas accumulation and that could support a further exploration phase in the area.
